Right now the female DJs are on the rise, as I should know myself. I’m holding the spotlight on my partner-in-crime, NYC’s DJ Bonnie Danger. She’s shared the turntables with dope female DJs such as Roxy Cottontail, Nina Sky to name a few and recently she and I shut it down at her residency Kush for Melo-X’s birthday last Wednesday.

1. How long have you DJ’d for and what genres do you play?

I’ve been djing for about 7 years now, but about a year full time. As far as genres I keep it versatile, but generally my flavor is uptempo. I love spinning a lot of house, electro, and bass types mixed with classic hip hop, r&b, disco, and funk.

2. When was your first gig and how was your experience?

My very first gig was djing a college house party back when I was in school. I think that’s when I really really feel in love with djing. Feeling people’s energy get lifted off of what I was giving them was lifting for me.

3. As a female DJ in a male dominated industry, how well do you handle the subliminal pressure if there’s any?

Well you know all eyes are on you; kind of like if a girl was playing basketball on an all dude squad, everyone is going to be paying attention to see what she can do. I think of it like that and bring that “go hard or go home” mentality with me so those who may underestimate, are proven wrong.

4. What advice can you give up and coming DJs?

Be persistent. Differentiate yourself in a saturated industry while staying true to you. Work hard. There’s a million other dope DJs who have the same dream so go get your’s.

5. Where can we find you spinning next?

Each and every Wednesday I’m at Kush downtown on Chrystie St. rotating some of NYC’s dopest DJs (like you Brina ), I’m also at Sutra, Sin Sin, and Katra monthly, and some spots in between. I have a blog at www.bonniedanger.com where you can keep up with music and happening events. Hope to see you guys out soon

Surely, you’ve heard about the earthquake in Haiti and the resulting catastrophe (and if you haven’t, this blog is probably the last place you’d go for information on it). Still, if you’re interested in donating, you can easily donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti by texting “HAITI” to 90999 or text “Yele” to 501501 to donate $5 to YELE HAITI.

More info can be found here.

I’ve heard of donation drives and support being organized within the NYC area and will send out updates as often as I can for those of you willing to help.

There are some timepieces that are so classic, so well-respected and so legendary that any modern man should have them on his radar. This goes beyond just being able to identify them when he sees them adorn the wrist of a colleague or boss, but rather he should be able to speak to their provenance, what makes them interesting, and what makes them worth owning. In this must-read list, we’ll run through ten of the most unmistakable and unforgettable watches on the planet. Study with close cause, because we can guarantee you someone you know owns one of them and our guess is they love to talk about it. Enjoy.

2. Patek Philippe Calatrava: Patek Philippe is often referred to as the finest watch company in the world and the Calatrava is their least expensive yet most popular piece. Originally produced in 1932, the Calatrava is a simple watch that rarely features anything more complicated than a simple date window. It is the quintessential “dress” watch.

Whisky drinkers rejoice: there’s now a social network just for you. Connosr is a place to review whiskies (spelled the Scottish way), connect with other whisky connoisseurs and find new whiskies you might like.

It’s a slick site that includes a Google Map of where each whisky comes from, plus whisky-related event listings and discussion boards. They’ve got a business model too: affiliate links to partner sites where you can purchase whiskies.

What makes Connosr really useful, however, is its iPhone version of the site: if you’re at a bar, this fast-loading mobile site gives you the info you need to pick a great whisky and review the ones you try.

If wine is your choice of drink, you might also want to check out Snooth and Cork’d.

Upper Deck Authenticated Unveils Michael Jordan Hall of Fame Tribute Series from Artist Shepard Fairey
Series includes Jordan UNC, BULLS, and Hall of Fame Portrait Prints

Everything about Michael Jordan is iconic, from his slam dunks to his signature shoes to his tongue wagging to his number, so he makes a great subject for portraiture because everything about him is laced with cultural significance. You can tell from the look in his eyes, even back when he was at the University of North Carolina, that he was obsessed with greatness, but he also managed to do everything with a sense of flair. I think it’s that combination of intensity and style, and of course his singular talent, that make him the embodiment of a legend.
